Check freshness in Avocado

  • Unripe avocado is bright green and very hard
  • Ripe avocado is dark green in color and relatively soft
  • Pull the stem of the avocado, if it comes of the avocado then its ripe and ready to eat
  • Avoid an avocado if its stem does not come off with a gentle tug (you can store such avocado for 3-4 days to ripen depending on the fruits condition)
  • If the stem of the avocado is already removed and there is a dark brown coloring under it, it means the avocado is over ripe.
  • Fresh ripe avocados will have green spot under the stem
  • You can also wrap the unripe green avocado in aluminum foil and place it in oven at 200 degree Fahrenheit (93 degree Celsius) for about 10 minutes. This will quicken the ripening process.
