Grown in tropical regions of the world, tamarind is a pod like fruit growing on a leguminous tree. The tamarind pod has a sweet tangy pulp which is brown in color. Whereas, the pulp of young green pod tastes sour.
The bean like pod is filled with brown fibrous flesh and seeds. The leaves of the tamarind tree are sour in taste.
Tamarind pod can vary from 7.5 cm to 15 cm (3 inches to 6 inches). The weight of the pod depends on the pulp and seeds. Tamarind pod can weigh from 5 grams to 25 grams (0.7 to 0.9 ounces).
