Green Pepper / Green Capsicum

Green bell peppers typically grow from medium to large in size. Their shape is rounded, blocky, and square, and they have 3-4 lobes. This dark green vegetable has a smooth, glossy outer skin, and soft pale green flesh, which is juicy, crisp, and succulent.

A hollow cavity filled with a white membrane and a multitude of small, flat, cream-colored circular seeds is present inside the thick flesh. As opposed to the other colored pepper varieties, green bell peppers have an aromatic, green flavor that is less sweet and almost bitter.

The green bell pepper is a good source of vitamin C as well as vitamins A, B6, and K, potassium, folic acid, fiber, and beta-carotene.

The green bell pepper / capsicum originates in tropical America and has been cultivated for centuries. Around 1493, Spanish and Portuguese explorers introduced them to Asia and Europe, setting the stage for the development of new varieties and heirlooms throughout the world.
