Kumquats are small, sweet-tart fruits, growing in cluster and are botanically classified as a Citrus japonica. Kumquat has oval, round to oblong shape. The entire kumquat, including its peel, flesh, and seeds, is edible.

Kumquats have a thin, glossy, taut skin with prominent oil glands, which turn from green to golden yellow, orange, or red-orange depending on the variety. Furthermore, the skin is tightly attached to the flesh, and the fruit contains very little bitter white pith.

Kumquat has three to six segments of flesh, which are semi-aqueous and tender, enclosing a few cream-colored seeds. Kumquat’s peel is sweet, subtly floral, and fruity. Whereas, the flesh tastes a little tart and sour.

Average diameter of kumquat is 1- 1.5 inches (2.5 – 3.8 cm). Average length of Kumquat ranges from 2-2.5 inches (5-6.3 cm). Average weight of a kumquat fruit is 20-25 grams (0.7 – 0.9 ounces).
