AMI: The onion harvest arrives at the warehouse quickly

Although there was a delay in the onion harvest this year, it is now picking up speed thanks to favorable weather conditions. Prices have fallen with the season, and currently are about the same as the previous two years.

All regions had good late-summer weather, which helped the onion harvest. However, it is not possible to make up the time lost in the development process and harvest. The warehouse holds the majority of goods, but it is located in the southwest. The harvest amounts are also different. The harvest quantities are not high, as the population development was too slow for them to be seen in spring.

With the increasing harvest volumes, the prices have been steadily declining. This is a typical development for the season. The domestic market is currently focusing on prices for sorted yellow onions at EUR 17.00/100 kg in large bags. The price range has remained between the previous two years.

Retailers in the second week of September are more likely to advertise onions as storage products during the harvest. Large packing units are often offered at a low price. This should increase the household demand for onions, which is already high.
