The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of the Nation (MAGYP) reported that a record-breaking export shipment of citrus was done to Russia and EU from Argentina. The shipment was declared and certified by Sensasa in Argentina.
Argentine citrus fruit exports to the EU and Russian Federation, the two most important markets for its fresh citrus fruit, were calculated to be 7,300 pallets under the deck and 5,000 pallets in 250 containers on deck.
Julián Dominguez of MAGyP, said that exporting these regional products represented a new milestone for their fresh citrus fruit exports.
From Port Campana in Buenos Aires province in Argentina, the ship left with oranges, pears, lemons, mandarins and walnuts.
“Thanks to the improvements that have been implemented for citrus export’s phytosanitary certification and the joint work of Senasa in the private sector and the provinces, the 2021 campaign is developing normally,” said Diego Quiroga, national director of Senasa Plant Protection.
A team of professionals from the offices of San Pedro and Zárate prepared phytosanitary certificates for 12,260 pallets, totaling almost 14,000 metric tons (MT) of fresh citrus fruit, which left a refrigerated conventional cellar along with other containers on deck.
There were over 6,400 pallets of lemons, nearly 5,000 pallets of oranges, 860 pallets of mandarins, 166 pallets of pears and six pallets of walnuts in the shipment.
MAGyP said the producers, packers, shipowners, shipping companies, and the entire export sector of raw materials with high added value work together in compliance with the national control and phytosanitary protection.
Around 3,542,000MT of citrus fruits are produced annually, and 4 out of every 10 exported fruits come from this group. 68 percent of the almost 365,000 tons exported in 2020 were lemons, 22 percent were oranges, and almost 10 percent were mandarins.
