Broccoli Rabe

Broccoli rabe, also known as rapini, is a cool season green vegetable belonging to mustard family. It has got long green leaves with cluster of buds. Because of the appearance of the buds, its often confused as related to broccoli.

Interestingly, rapini / broccoli rabe is related to turnip. The green leaves are crinkled, prominently veiny and have jagged borders. The stems of broccoli rabe are firm, fibrous and crunchy.

Whole broccoli rabe (leaves , stem and buds) is edible and has a grassy and slight bitter taste. Cooked broccoli rabe loosed its crunchy texture and develops a nutty and slight peppery taste.
