According to Gulf News report, the container shipping company Maersk Kanoo UAE has signed a contract with DP World’s trade and logistics hub, Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza), in order to open its first warehouse and distribution facility in the UAE.
According to reports, Christopher Cook, managing director of Maersk UAE, and Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and managing director of DP World – UAE Region & Jafza, signed the agreement in Dubai.
Maersk will construct the 10,000 meter square facility in the Jafza in Dubai as part of its effort to build an integrated solution that will give customers “single-window access to multiple logistics requirements”.
A storage capacity of 80,000 square cubes in the facility also is suited for the storage of goods in transit while being exported or imported to other countries in the middle east due to Dubai being the central gateway for the middle east.
Gulf News quoted Abdulla Bin Damithan as saying, ” Our infrastructure combined with proximity to different operations and businesses lays the right foundation for a setup that Maersk has envisaged for its growth ambitions in the UAE.”
Due to Al Maktoum Airport’s proximity, the facility is said to be able to serve customers for air cross-docking and moving less-than-container-load cargo (LCL).
Using modern technologies and digital solutions, the warehouse management system will ensure efficient inventory management, according to the company.
