CCARI, Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute under (ICAR) branch in Goa, will conduct trials on plants that are not normally cultivated in the state.
The crops are apple, potato, and cauliflower. Dr Parveen Kumar, who was previously with the ICAR-Central Potato Research Institute, took the initiative.
If the project of farming potatoes in Goa is successful then ICAR-CCARI will expand the cultivation of the crop there. To reduce dependence on Karnataka, especially Belagavi, Kumar said that more crop variety is necessary.
In South Goa, a small village where temperatures and conditions are conducive to strawberry cultivation, Goa currently grows strawberries on a small scale after several failed attempts.
