Morocco launches food and drink campaign to increase export to the UK

A Moroccan government campaign has launched to convince British consumers and businesses to explore the country’s food products, as well as promote its offering as a “quicker, reliable, and credible trading alternative”.

Through a series of B2B and B2C creative assets, the campaign highlights Moroccan agriculture and foodstuffs to respective audiences. The initiative has a significant emphasis upon the high-quality and variety of the food and beverage sector, in addition to its sustainable agricultural practices, its competitive prices, and the security of the logistics required to move products between the two countries.

Additionally, Tangier in Morocco and Poole in the UK are now connected by an upcoming direct shipping route, designed to reduce journey times from more than six days by road to less than three.

So far, the shipping route between the two countries has been via two crossings, with Spain serving as a transit point. Compared to previous logistic chains by road, the new route will considerably reduce emissions.

“The special relationship between Morocco and the UK dates back over 800 years and it continues to get stronger every year,” explained El Mehdi El Alami, director of export promotion and development at Morocco Foodex. “And now, we have a real opportunity to take our economic and trade relations to a new level.”

“Food is such an important part of Morocco’s history and identity and we’re passionate about the high-quality produce, authentic cuisine and sustainability of our food and drink offering. That’s what we want to celebrate and promote to the UK through this campaign.”

Its land is rich in arable land, and its climate is temperate despite being in the Mediterranean. It is a major exporter of fresh produce such as citrus fruits and market vegetables.

The Morocco Foodex campaign serves as an introduction to a broader awareness initiative aimed at promoting the importance of Moroccan agriculture and promoting its quality. A food sampling campaign will be conducted in London as part of the campaign.
