Peru: Avocado exports increase by 43%

A report by the Association of Exporters of Peru (ADEX) stated that exports of fruits and vegetables from Peru increased by 26% in January-July 2021 over the same period in the previous year and totalled $ 2.8 billion.

A total of $ 2.3 billion was exported in fresh, dried, frozen, and canned fruits. Table grapes and avocados were the most valuable export commodities – $ 538 million (an increase of 33%) and $ 925 million (an increase of 43%), respectively. For the specified period, avocados and table grapes accounted for 63% of the total export of Peruvian fruits.

From January to July 2021, Peru exported more mangoes, tangerines and blueberries compared to the same period in 2020.

Peru’s main produce importers were: the United States – $ 681 million ( an increase of 14%), the US share is 29% of total exports, the Netherlands – $ 581 million (  an increase of 37%) – with a share of 25%. Spain, Chile, Great Britain, Hong Kong, South Korea, China, Canada, and Russia follow.

In January – July 2021, Peru exported $ 480 million worth of vegetables, including asparagus worth $ 260 million, artichokes worth $ 58 million, ginger worth $ 43 million, onions worth $ 33 million, and olives worth $ 23 million.

Peru exported $ 235 million worth of vegetables to the United States during the first 7 months of 2021, which was 12% more than during the same period in 2020. US purchases accounted for 49 percent of total exports. Following this, Spain accounted for 13% of Peruvian vegetable exports, an increase of 11%.
