Peru : US$ 2.8 billion worth of fruit and vegetable exports recorded

The Peruvian Exporters’ Association (ADEX) reported that fruit and vegetable exports through July grew 26 per cent worth US$ 2.8 billion.

Including fresh, frozen, canned, and dried fruits, fruit exports accounted for $2.3 billion, mainly avocados (US$925 million) and grapes ($538 million), which together accounted for 63 percent of the total.

Exports of avocados increased by 43 percent, whereas those of grapes rose by 33 percent.

Also, the value of exports for mangos, mandarins, and blueberries all increased year-over-year.

Over half of all fruit exports went to the United States, which imported $681 million – an increase of 14 percent and a 29 percent share. With $581 million, the Netherlands came in second place, an increase of 37 percent and a 25 percent share.

Top ten countries included Spain, Chile, United Kingdom, Hong Kong, South Korea, China, Canada and Russia.

US$480 million was exported in the vegetable category, a growth of 15 percent. In terms of sales, asparagus (260 million US dollars), artichokes (58 million US dollars), ginger (43 million US dollars), onions (33 million US dollars) and olives (23 million US dollars) were the top items.

With $235 million of shipments, the U.S. was once again the largest importer, accounting for  12 per cent increase and a 49 per cent share. Immediately following this was Spain with an increase of 11 percent and a share of 13 percent.
