Uzbekistan: Pear fruit is costlier than previous years

The massive pear harvest in Uzbekistan will end in about three weeks. Pear harvesting season in the country begins in the first week of July and ends in the second week of October; the entire period lasts about 3.5 months.

In Uzbekistan, current pear prices have risen dramatically since last year despite the end of the harvest season. For this fruit on the capital markets of the republic, the average wholesale price is 16,000 soums/kg ($1.5), which is 78% higher than the year 2020 and 128% higher than the year 2019.

A low harvest is predicted in 2021 as the early and mid-season varieties have already been harvested, and the late varieties have already been harvested, in addition to the fact that the country is not an exporter, but an importer of this product.

Due to weather anomalies, Uzbekistan’s pear harvest this year was poor, as were the apple and many other types of stone fruit harvests.

According to some sources, pear prices in some countries are as follows: Russia – $ 1.16 / kg, and Belarus at about the same level – $ 1.40 / kg. The pear price in other countries is much lower: in Ukraine it is $ 0.87 / kg , Tajikistan it is $ 0.80 / kg , Georgia it is $ 0.64 / kg , Moldova it is $ 0.56 / kg.
