Compared to the same period last year, exports of pomegranate from Uzbekistan grew by 51% from the beginning of August through the second week of September 2021. For the same period, export revenues from pomegranate declined by 4%.
Uzbekistan exported 4.1 thousand tons of pomegranates worth USD 2.97 million from August 1 to September 20, 2021, whereas for the same period last year pomegranates exports were 2.7 thousand tons worth USD 3.10 million
Pomegranate prices in Uzbekistan this year are much lower than they were a year ago – by about 30-40%, which led to lower export revenues.
Uzbekistan exports between 10 and 18 thousand tons of pomegranate per year, according to statistics. Pomegranate exports in 2020 amounted to 17.4 thousand tons worth $ 18.5 million. The Uzbek export season for pomegranates lasts longer than other fresh fruits and vegetables – beginning in August and continuing through February or March of the following year. Many of the exports are directed toward post-Soviet countries and Russia.
