Argentina: blueberry exports begin

Argentine blueberry growers are taking advantage of the country’s timely blueberry season and have started exporting blueberries. The export has started to non-traditional markets as well such as Israel and Indonesia by promoting the fruit’s prime qualities: delicious, sustainable, and ethical: reported by Argentinean Blueberry Committee.

Some of the measures included in these shipments are new, such as removing withholding taxes, allowing growers to compete with other southern hemisphere exporters, whose market share has increased dramatically in the past few years.

According to the Argentine Blueberry Committee, average production for the 2021 season will remain at 17.5 million Kg, as in previous years.

Out of these 17.5 million, about 9 million will be exported as fresh fruit, 3.5 million will go to the domestic market, and the remaining 5 million will be frozen.

The organic industry continues to grow, reaching 35 percent of total production in 2020.
