Compared to the previous season, avocado production in Chile will increase by 57% in 2021/22 and amount to 220 thousand tons. Chile’s Avocado Committee announced this.
During the fruiting season, good weather conditions are associated with increased avocado yields. Drought and frost have caused the avocado production to decline in previous years.
Avocado exports from Chile will increase from 74 thousand tons to 120 thousand tons in 2021/22. Western Europe remains Chile’s main export market, accounting for 75% of the total supply. It is reported that the remainder of the 100 thousand tons will be sold on the domestic market.
“We are positive about the forecasts for the growth of avocado production in the new season, despite the difficulties and restrictions associated with Covid-19 that have affected logistics. We also hope to consolidate the presence of Chilean avocado in our main markets and continue to supply a quality product, ” stated Francisco Kontardo, Executive Director of Chilean Avocado Producers Committee.
