Cremini Mushroom

Cremini mushrooms are closely related to white button mushrooms and portobello mushrooms, with the primary difference being their age.

The white button mushroom is the youngest, followed by the cremini, and then the portobello mushroom is the most mature.

Cremini mushrooms range in size from small to medium. They are round in shape, have a short stem, and have a rounded cap. There are several shades of brown on the smooth cap. The cap is firm and spongy.

When harvested at the Cremini stage, the cap is still partially closed, so most of the small brown gills are hidden. It has a short, white stem that is dense, thick, smooth. The stem is also edible which has a slightly springy texture.

There is a mild earthy flavor and a meaty texture to cremini mushrooms.
