Portabella Mushroom

Among the agaricaceae family of mushrooms, portabella mushrooms are a more mature, earthier version of the common mushroom / white mushrooms. In the northern hemisphere, portabella mushrooms can be found growing in the grass and near manure piles as well as on leaf litter in areas with conifers, such as Monterey cypress trees.

Its dense, meat-like texture and earthy flavor make it one of the most popular cultivated mushrooms.

Large and flat in shape, the portabella mushroom cap has an average diameter of 15 centimetres and has a thick stem. There is an array of brown to tan tones on the smooth cap and it is firm, thick, and spongy.

There are dark brown, fleshy gills beneath the cap, a ring from the cottony veil, and a dense, fibrous stem. The chewy texture and smoky, earthy taste of Portabella mushrooms make them one of the most popular mushrooms.
