As part of the state program of the agro-industrial complex in the direction of “Vegetable and potato growing”, five billion rubles of additional financing will be given for the acceleration of the vegetable growing industry in Russia in 2022. This was said by Dmitry Patrushev, the Russian Minister of Agriculture. His announcement was part of a plan to lower food prices.
This year’s increase in vegetable and potato prices has been attributed to unfavorable weather conditions during harvest as well as a rise in the cost of production associated with increases in fertilizer, fuel, lubricants, and plant protection products.
“The Ministry of Agriculture will envisage subsidies for: first, the use of land for vegetable growing and land reclamation; second – an increase in the production of vegetables in open and closed ground; third – technical re-equipment of production facilities; fourth – the construction of vegetable and potato storage facilities; fifth – preferential transportation of vegetables and preferential lending; sixth – the creation of seed-breeding centers, ” Patrushev said.
Small farms will also receive grants and subsidies, and vegetable growing will be prioritized. Small and medium-sized farms will be able to sell products directly to consumers, which will lead to a reduction in cost of vegetables on the Russian domestic market. This will be addressed in conjunction with the Ministry of Industry and Trade. A subsidy program will be established for the production of plots for private households by 2022, as well.
