Turkish apricots make up 85% of world dried apricot exports

According to a report from Anadolu agency, dried apricot exports from the Malatya province in eastern Turkey increased by $ 50 million over the same period last year – reaching $ 225.5 in January-September 2021.

About 85% of the world’s dried apricots exports come from Malatya.

In Malatya, there are about 8 million apricot trees out of 17 million in Turkey.

Approximately 50 thousand farms produce dried apricots.

In September, almost 11 thousand tons of dried apricots were exported from the province directly in value of $42,26 million, the Malatya Trade Exchange reported.

Exports of dried apricots totalled $30.75 million in September 2020.

This September, Malatya’s export of dried apricots generated over $11.51 million more in revenue than in September last year.

According to Ramazan Ozcan, the Malatya Trade Exchange head, income from dried apricot exports has been increasing month after month.

“In the period from January 1 to September 30, 2021, 63 thousand 587 tons of dried apricots worth $ 225.52 million were exported from Malatya. Thus, both the provincial budget and the budget of Turkey are replenished. The goal is to export 100 thousand tons worth $ 500 million. And we are confidently moving towards this goal, ”he stated.

“Dried apricots produced in Malatya are known for their high quality. If we compare the data on exports in January-September with the indicators for 9 months of 2020, there are no sharp fluctuations. Export proceeds increased by $ 50 million. Until the end of the year, we will not only maintain, but also continue to increase export indicators, ”he concluded.
